The YWCA is a global movement committed to advancing the empowerment, leadership, and rights of women, young women, and girls across over 100 countries. In India, the YWCA has been a pioneering force in the women’s rights movement for 129 years. The YWCA works tirelessly to combat gender-based inequality in the society through intervention programmes and projects, focusing on marginalized communities and individuals, regardless of age, caste, religion, or financial background.
The YWCA advocates for equal job opportunities, equal rights, sexual and reproductive health, and the eradication of all forms of violence against women and young children. This includes combatting various human rights violations such as forced labor, sex trafficking, forced marriage, child labor, and female genital mutilation. In the 21st century, it is unacceptable that millions of women and children still lack the rights to lead dignified lives. Gender-based violence, in all its forms, can be overcome through empowerment, particularly by those who understand it best: survivors, grassroots organizations, and frontline leaders.
